Brasília-Telefonica Vivo (6) today introduced a new model of antenna for cellular telephony, which allows sharing with the public lighting service, avoiding the construction of towers, with less visual impact and less energy consumption.
Part of the equipment is installed in underground boxes of glass fibre reinforced plastic. The antenna can be used for voice and data technologies (3 g and 4 g).
In partnership with Companhia Energética de Brasília (CEB), which made the replacement of the power pole, one of these aerials was installed in front of the National Stadium, Mané Garrincha in Brasilia where the first game of the Confederations Cup on June 15. The technology has been patented by the company, but may be used by other carriers.
The President of Telefonica, Antonio Carlos Valente, said that the antennas will help improve the carrier’s coverage, but not forego conventional antennas. The company’s goal is to have 500 antennas like this until the end of the year in six cities that hosting the Confederations Cup, and São Paulo.
Communications Minister Paulo Bernardo said that the country’s telephone operators will be able meet targets of supply from 4 g to the Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup. “We feel that the day provided for start. The companies that won the bid to offer the 4 g will have to provide the technology in the host cities of the Confederations Cup until April 30 this year and the headquarters and branches of the World Cup until 31 December.
