The cell phone is more popular than the internet among Brazilian companies, indicates a survey published on Thursday by the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE).
Among the interviewed on “research on the use of information and communication technologies in business 2010″, 2.2 million (80.8%) have used computer, 2.1 million (76.9%) made use of the Internet and 2.3 million (83.3%), cell phone to work.
According to the IBGE, the spread of mobile telephony and its possibility of use for voice, data and images “have important implications for the business sector, as it enables many decisions are communicated and tasks are performed outside the company’s footprint and working hours”. The Office adds that 83.3% of companies have a corporate cell phone and/or the person for the job. In smaller companies, the cell phone personal use was prevalent: 52.4% of micro enterprises used while 40.3% of them used the corporate mobile.
According to the IBGE, the proportion of companies that used computers and the Internet grow as you increase the size.
Between micro-enterprises with up to nine people working), 78.0% used the computer, while in subsequent port (companies with 10 to 19 persons employed) the rate of use of this equipment was 94.1%. The same behavior is maintained with respect to the use of the Internet, namely, 73.7% of micro enterprises used it, whereas in the companies with 10 to 19 people occupied this proportion was 91.5%.
In enterprises with 500 or more persons employed the universality of computer use and the Internet, therefore, focuses on micro-enterprises the potential for increased use of ICTs, mainly in the sectors of industry and commerce.
Among those who did not use computer (454.6 thousand), 96.2% were micro-enterprises, and, among those who did not use the Internet (537 k), 95.3% also belonged to this segment.
According to IBGE’s technicians, the use of new INFORMATION and COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES have not yet reached the total of Brazilian companies. Among the surveyed, 2.2 million (80.8%) have used computer, 2.1 million (76.9%) made use of the Internet and 2.3 million (83.3%), cell phone to work. Were 2.7 million companies.
The original research conducted by IBGE, with results for the year of 2010, included companies of all sizes, grouping them according to the total staff busy in: companies with 1 to 9 persons employed, which are numerically the most representative in the country; with 10 to 19 persons employed; with 20 to 49 persons employed; with 50 to 499 persons employed; and with 500 or more persons employed.
